If no one has told you today, I am telling you. YOU ARE AMAZING! Most of us experience judgmental eyes that look at us with disdain. They don’t see those moments that make life a challenge.
They might know someone with a child with autism, but they never share in the difficulties involved. Maybe their child doesn’t do them. Good for them. For the rest of us, I’m here to speak.
Perhaps they are teachers, therapists, and physicians whose encounter with your child is fleeting. They go home at night. It’s their job, but it’s your life.
So, for all the:
- nights you cannot wind down enough to go to sleep
- uncontrollable crying, scream into the pillow, punch the wall, want to throw a plate days
- sleep in front of the bedroom door so your child doesn’t run outside at night moments
- times you wish you could soak in a long bath, but can only get in a 2-minute shower, if even that
- research hours on the internet, because the doctors call it a behavior, but you know something is wrong
- stress and worry about the things your child cannot tell you, but you suspect about a caregiver or educator
- times you think you can’t take it any more, only to get up the next day to do it all over again
AND SO MANY MORE…
You Are Amazing!
You are a prime example of unconditional love. You have a quiet inner strength that most people only read about. You have a level of intelligence that rivals most geniuses. You can look beyond the autism label and see your child.
You are special. You are unique. Your child is lucky to have you, just as lucky as you are to have them. When they go out into the community, they are a reflection of just how amazing you really are.
So, if no one ever does, pat yourself on the back. You deserve it. If no one ever sees your struggles, just know that those of us going through those moments see it through the lens of our own.
